Motorcraft fuel vapor canister purge valves help your engine properly burn fuel vapors—and keep them contained in a canister preventing the vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. Once trapped in the canister, they are slowly released into your engine and then burned up, much like regular fuel. A non-efficient purge valve can cause a check engine light, rough idle, difficulty starting the vehicle, and even a loss of fuel mileage.
