Ford E 150 ECONOLINE Club Wagon Tires
The long-running Ford E-150 Econoline was a workhorse van that was based on the F-150’s platform. Econolines were offered with a variety of engines and drivetrains as well as a comfortable, well-appointed passenger version; however, most Econolines were designed and equipped as work tires. Like previous iterations of the Econoline, the E150 Club Wagon used the Twin I-Beam front suspension that had long been a feature of Ford F-series trucks. Drivetrain options were similar too, with Econolines offered with everything from the old 4.9L inline 6-cylinder up to the Power Stroke Diesel from F-series trucks. This versatile chassis was available in larger sizes and load ratings, all the way up to an E550 model, and optional cutaway chassis for installation of a custom cargo box. The E150 Econoline Club Wagon and cargo version were starting to show their age and were replaced by the European-style Ford Transit van for the model year 2015.
Here at FORTLUFT, we’ve gone through and put together some of the best tire choices for an E150 Econoline Club Wagon, including all-season, all-terrain (for 4WD equipped Econolines), and winter tires, ranked in Best-Great-Good order. We then calculated SimpleScore for traction, longevity, and handling for each one, using our system that looks at data points and reviews for each tire and then assigns a numerical score. Ready? Let’s begin:
1. Toyo Open Country A-T III: Best All-Terrain tire
While most Econolines are 2WD and 4WD drivetrains (shared with the F-series), this is not that uncommon for these vans. The Toyo Open Country A-T III is an excellent choice for a 4×4 vehicle; it’s the kind of tire you can count on for the grip and durability that will safely get the job done or can take you on fun adventures on sand, snow, mud, or rocks. That kind of performance doesn’t necessarily come with a hard compromise on the ride comfort, sharp handling, civilized road manners, and low noise that you’d expect with premium all-season tires.
